About Us

Dr. MonicaOur Purpose:
The Center for Integrative Medicine is dedicated to providing quality resources on clinical offerings of Integrative Medicine. This may be in the form of links to clinical centers, media events, products, and educational products. We exist to forward the cause of Integrative Medicine and to make its services more readily available to the many people seeking this type of health care.

Hostess of this site: Dr. Monica

Monica Myklebust grew up beneath white pine in a little town in Minnesota named for the magical light of the northern sky, Aurora.  Surrounded by a safe community and a loving family, she developed a passion for learning. After college she moved to San Francisco to pursue adventure and Genetics research at the University of California. There she became enamored with diversity and learned about how people’s stories shape their lives. Stories of the Cultural Revolution brought her to live and teach in China. Her friends there taught her the value of democracy and of opportunities that exist only in a free society. She returned home to study medicine at the University of Minnesota and became a Family Doctor at Mayo. When delight turned toward cynicism, she moved to Tucson for renewal. Two years of immersion in a new way of practicing medicine and personal transformation resulted from her fellowship at the Program in Integrative Medicine with Dr. Andrew Weil. In Ann Arbor, she was instrumental in creating the integrative medicine clinical services at the University of Michigan which include a “Comfort” TV channel for hospitalized patients, an integrative medicine clinic, and the Healing Foods Pyramid. After acting as medical director at the University of Maryland Complementary and Alternative Medicine Center, she left academia, changing gears and coasts. Dr. Monica now lives happily among pines in Oregon where she directs a medical group in Portland.
